Club History

Leamington Spa Amateur Swimming Club was founded in 1885, initially to promote open-water swimming. The Club soon made its home at the former 33 yard pool at the Royal Pump Rooms, built in 1890.

Except for an enforced suspension during the Second World War, the Club has remained in operation ever since, celebrating its 125 year anniversary in 2010.

Following closure of the Pump Room pool in 1989, the Club continued by hiring local pools and successfully campaigned for a competitive swimming facility at Newbold Comyn.

In its early days, the Club was known for water polo, diving and life saving as well as competitive swimming.

Galas often included novelty events and water polo matches, with Club teams reaching national finals.

The strong sense of community even led to the purchase of a clubhouse, with funds later helping support developments including timing equipment at Newbold Comyn.

The Club currently supports both a popular teaching section and successful competitive squads.

LSASC competes in the National Arena League and has enjoyed national success in the Nuneaton & District Junior League and Mercian League.

Throughout its history, the Club has been run largely by volunteers from the community, for the community.

Every penny of membership and session fees supports pool hire, insurance, Swim England affiliation and club development.

LSASC remains immensely proud of its heritage, community role, and the achievements of its swimmers.
